Full treatment details
You know how stress rarely stays in one lane. It can show up as a racing mind, shallow sleep, and skin that suddenly feels reactive, dry, or inflamed.
That is why a Reiki healing session can feel so useful for busy people who want calm, comfort, and practical care in one visit. In our studio we blend gentle energy work with a skin-aware approach, drawing on Candy's nearly 15 years of hands-on experience across esthetics, massage therapy, Reiki, CranioSacral work, and yoga-based bodywork.
Below, we explain what Reiki healing is, who it can support, what a session at Urban Rituals looks like, and how it can work alongside meditation, chakra balancing, and sensitive-skin wellness.
What Is Reiki Healing?
We use Reiki as a gentle, noninvasive form of energy healing that brings quiet touch, focused presence, and deep rest into the body. Clients stay fully clothed, and we place our hands lightly on or just above the body based on comfort, consent, and the areas that need the most support.
NCCIH describes Reiki as a complementary health approach, which is the key distinction many people miss. We use it to support relaxation, recovery, and body awareness, not to replace medical or mental health care. In practice, that means we work around chakra areas and other tension-holding zones while helping the body settle out of fight-or-flight. For many clients, the first change is simple: the breath slows, the jaw softens, and the nervous system starts to downshift.
- Relaxation — Reiki gives the body a clear pause, which can help people who feel wired but tired.
- Balance — slow pacing and quiet hand placements support nervous system regulation.
- Emotional support — some clients notice less inner pressure, more clarity, or a sense of release.
- Skin-conscious care — because Reiki does not rely on friction, active ingredients, or pressure, it works well for many people with sensitive or reactive skin.
Research on Reiki is still evolving. Recent reviews suggest it may help reduce stress and anxiety for some people, especially as part of a broader wellness plan, but the evidence is not strong enough to frame Reiki as a cure or a stand-alone treatment for any medical condition. We often pair it with mindfulness, meditation, and simple relaxation techniques because those tools reinforce the same goal: helping the body feel safe enough to rest and repair.
Who Is It For?
We offer Reiki healing for people who feel overstimulated, emotionally drained, or disconnected from their bodies. It is a strong fit for clients who want a softer form of care, especially when massage pressure or heavily active skincare feels like too much. Many of our clients come in for stress relief, better sleep, and steadier emotional wellbeing; others are working with sensitive or reactive skin and want a calming session that supports both the nervous system and the skin barrier.
You do not need prior experience with chakras, meditation, or energy work to benefit. Reiki may be especially helpful if you relate to any of these:
- You feel stressed, tense, or mentally "on" all the time.
- Your skin tends to flare when life gets busy.
- You want holistic care that feels restful rather than intense.
- You are already doing counseling, skincare, or bodywork and want a complementary layer of support.
- You want to deepen mindfulness and body awareness.
Some people combine Reiki with facials, CranioSacral work, or a Yogissage massage, because each service supports the body in a different way. If you are in active medical or mental health treatment, Reiki can still have a place: we position it as complementary care that may help you feel calmer and more able to follow through with the rest of your plan.
What to Expect
We guide clients through calm Reiki sessions in our San Diego studio. Sessions last about 75 minutes, and you remain fully clothed the entire time. Cleveland Clinic notes that Reiki sessions commonly happen with the client fully dressed, and that comfort is part of the therapeutic setup. We take that seriously, especially for people with touch sensitivity, anxiety, or skin reactivity.
- We begin with a brief chat about goals, history, current stress, and any skin sensitivity.
- We explain touch options before we start. If you prefer hands-off work, we keep our hands above the body instead of using light contact.
- We use gentle hand placements around key energy centers to support relaxation and a steadier nervous system response.
- We guide slow breathing or a short meditation to help you settle in faster, especially if your mind is racing when you arrive.
- We watch for common responses such as warmth, tingling, a heavier feeling in the limbs, a softer breath pattern, or emotional release.
- We end with a grounded check-in and simple aftercare so the benefits carry into the rest of your day.
One useful tip: say up front if you want more verbal guidance. Some people relax better when we describe what we are doing, while others prefer silence. Giving us that preference at the start makes the session feel much safer and more effective. Afterward, we usually suggest water, a quiet evening if possible, and a short check-in with yourself over the next day or two.
Benefits & Results
Our Reiki sessions are built to promote relaxation, balance, and a calmer nervous system. The goal is not drama; it is a body that feels more settled, a mind that feels less crowded, and a person who leaves with more capacity than they walked in with. That can show up as easier breathing, quieter thoughts, less muscle guarding, better sleep that night, or a stronger sense of emotional steadiness.
- Deeper relaxation during the session — helps shift the body out of a constant stress response.
- Quieter thoughts and less inner tension — makes meditation and self-care easier to keep up with.
- Better sleep later that day — sleep supports mood, skin repair, and general wellness.
- Less sensitivity to touch or stimulation — useful for people who feel overwhelmed by stronger bodywork.
Mindfulness research points in the same direction: NCCIH notes that meditation and mindfulness may help reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety, and poor sleep, which is one reason we combine Reiki with breathing cues and grounded stillness instead of treating it like a stand-alone ritual. For skin-focused clients, this whole-person approach is often the missing piece. The National Eczema Association notes that stress can worsen inflammatory skin flare-ups, so calming the nervous system can support the work your skincare products are already trying to do.
We also keep expectations honest. Reiki may feel deeply restorative, but it is not a substitute for dermatology, psychotherapy, or medical treatment. The best results usually come when we place it inside a broader care plan that can include facials, CranioSacral work, movement, rest, and consistent home care.
Why Urban Rituals
Reiki is often offered as a one-note service. We do it differently, because Candy's dual training as an esthetician and massage therapist, plus her work as a Reiki Master and CranioSacral therapist, lets us connect the dots between skin stress, muscle guarding, sleep, and nervous system load. If your flare-ups track with stress and poor sleep, that crossover is a real advantage.
We personalize every session to meet you where you are, whether your priority is stress reduction, sensitive-skin calm, chakra balancing, or a deeper connection to your own healing process. Our studio at 3333 Midway Drive #104 is set up for quiet, unrushed, one-on-one care.
